Cats and Humans-the mysterious connection

What makes them do it?  Why do cats and humans seek the company of each other?  It's true that not all people (weirdos) like cats and not all cats (snobs) like people.  In spite of this, we have a long shared history.

Although cats and humans don't speak the same language, most of us understand each other just fine.  Cats treat us well in spite of our limited human perception and sensory abilities.  Many felines have made a vocation out of looking after their simple minded human friends.  If you thought we were looking after them, think again.  When was the last time you brought your feline friends mice,  sharpened your claws on their legs or hacked up  hairballs in their beds?

Cats and humans have a lot in common.  Although cats are furrier than some humans, they are not as furry as others.  Cats don't cook their mice and birds.  But some humans eat sushi and drink raw eggs.  Even though their reasons are different, cats and humans share a fondness for catnip. And most important, both species love couches.

This give and take between humans and cats balances out.  We let our feline buddies reap karmic rewards by allowing them to look out for us.  They give us mice- free homes, companionship and daily doses of cuteness.  But they do something for us that is even more important.  They give us magic and mystery.

Hanging out with my feline pals puts me in touch with my wild side, that part of myself that still believes life is miraculous.  People jokingly call me a cat magnet.  There might be something to that little joke because I do seem to attract them.  But that business about the catnip scented scarlet C hanging on my door is nonsense.  If there was a sign, it would say : No Vacancies.  Maybe this latest group of stray tom cats can't read English.  The darn things just keep coming.
